Fix Dessert Fraud Alert

– I am going to Dubai, what do you want me to bring you?

– Bring me some Dubai Chocolate!

When you are in Dubai, you start googling for FIX Dessert Chocolate and come across a website named “FIX Dessert Shop”. That seems like what you need, so you click on it and see all kinds of FIX Dessert chocolate bars!

What could go wrong?

Well, go back to the search results and look closer. There are many similarly named websites in the search results. All of them pretend to be FIX Dessert Chocolatiers in Dubai. They all have the words FIX/Dessert/Chocolatier/Shop in their name. What they have in common, though, is a very cheap-looking web site with a “chocolate shop” and WhatsApp button at the bottom, and…

Fraudsters waiting for your money

As with any other fraud, there are a few red flags that become obvious in hindsight.

First, there is a minimum amount that you can order, like “Total cost of products in cart must be 500,00 د.إ or more.” By the way, the official store has the opposite: the number of products you can order is limited because of high demand.

The second red flag is that the “shop” does not really work on the website. The goal of the fraudsters is to lead you to a conversation over WhatsApp, where they try to convince you that they are a legitimate business and demand payment.

The third, really huge red flag is the payment method. You have the choice between e-transfer or PayPal (Friends and Family option). Why do fraudsters insist you use that option? The answer is simple: payment to friends and family is non-refundable, and e-transfer also cannot be reversed.

The bottom line: buy original Dubai chocolate

The original shop is only on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fixdessertchocolatier/ and they use delivery service Deliveroo.
